Anita’s Tanghulu (Candied Fruit)

Spread the love

This recipe went viral on social media and I was so happy to try it with my daughter. So so fun when she’s around me in the kitchen. We know you’re going to love this simple sweet recipe made with only 3 ingredients. Tanghulu  is a super popular candied fruit snack found throughout Asia as a super street food. Simple sweet that gives any fruit of your choice the most  satisfying crunchy candy coating.

Ingredients

4 lollypop sticks (6 inches)

1/2 cup granulated white sugar

3/4 cup water

12 grapes or any fruit of your choice

Ice water bath plate

Preparation

  1. Make sure to wash your fruit before and pat dry very well. Place grapes onto the lollypop sticks. I would recommend placing 3 on each stick instead of 4 , so the coating into the sugar will be easier to reach all and won’t crystalize.
  2. Use a small sauce pan and at low heat incorporate sugar and water. Do not stir. Wait until caramel starts bubbling and changing into an amber color. Let it simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes at low heat until sticky like syrup. You can taste it by incorporating the tip of the stick into the boiling sugar and proceed into inserting it into the ice water bath, if the tip of the stick hardens means that is ready for dipping the fruits sticks into the caramel.
  3.  Insert quickly the grapes stick in syrup, swirl all around the fruits to coat evenly. Immediately dip the fruit stick into the ice water bath to harden the sugar coating.
  4.  Repeat with the remaining and try on working fast but carefully so the sugar won’t burn or crystalize. Be also careful by working with hot sugar. Enjoy and spread the LOVE!
